Browns Rookie QB DeShone Kizer Benched For Second Half Against Jets

Quarterback Josh Mc Cown is 2-2 with the Jets

'Everyone knew the Cleveland Browns would go through some growing pains with rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer.

McCown's short pass to Seferian-Jenkins gave the Jets a 10-7 lead in the third quarter. It was the Jets' first scoring opportunity of the game. Kevin Hogan led the Browns on a touchdown drive following the move, but they trail the Jets 17-7 in the fourth quarter.

Both turnovers by Kizer came in the red zone costing the Browns premium scoring opportunities.

The Browns penetrated to the Jets 32 the next time they got the ball, but then two penalties pushed them back to the Jets 47.

Hogan's 41-yard TD pass to Duke Johnson with 1:49 left pulled the Browns within 17-14, but Julian Stanford recovered the onside kick for NY and McCown knelt three times to run out the clock.

The Jets did next to nothing on offense in the first half, but together a 32-yard drive in the final 31 seconds to set up Chandler Catanzaro's 57-yard field goal, the longest in franchise history.

On their second offensive series, the Browns ran an option on third-and-goal from the 3 that turned into a disaster when Kizer was charged with a fumble after pitching it to running back Isaiah Crowell. At 0-4, there have been no signs the Browns are getting better.

Hogan finished the day 16 of 19 for 192 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Kizer, the rookie from Notre Dame who had started all five games this season, was 8 of 17 for 87 yards and an interception.

McCown was 23 of 30 for 194 yards, two touchdowns and one pick. WR Kenny Britt was inactive for the Browns with groin/knee injuries after starting the first four game.
