Decision on NZ government looming

There's no love lost between Seymour and Peters and Monday's release was a chance for the ACT leader to call Peters

Meetings will go into the evening - as they have several days of this week - and will likely feature portfolio allocation.

Mr Hooton said a lower dollar, greater political interference in the Reserve Bank, slashing immigration and regional development were the important topics for Mr Peters, and didn't think the Green Party would be "terribly impressed" with NZ First's stance on forestry.

New Zealand First leader Winston Peters has said he would only make a decision on which party to back after the results of the September 23 election become official next Thursday.

Caucus will meet again once the final meetings of the day are over.

When asked how the Wellington steakhouse Green Parrot was last night, Ms Ardern grinned, "I can't even have a schnitzel in peace!"

Information about who is on the board has been hard to find - it's not listed on the party's website nor, it seems, in any publicly available party documents.

Shane Jones said he believed today's talks would be "a continuation of policy".

He said the caucus meeting was "very good".

The first meeting of the day will be with National at 9.30am followed by a Labour meeting at 12.30pm.

He has indicated that allocations of ministerial posts would make up the last section of the talks.

It's expected cabinet positions could be put up for discussion for the first time.

Peters remained tight-lipped after talks with the prime minister, saying the meeting was "fine", and later met Labour Party leader Jacinda Ardern. Peters has previously served in both National and Labour governments.

Getting that agreement meant "everyone gets buy-in, everybody gets responsibility and everybody has authority for what the party's going to do".

Asked if he knew who was on the NZ First board, he replied "um, yeah, no, our rangatira, he'll deal with those questions and issues later on in the process".

He said he wasn't sure Mr Peters would want to be reliant on a majority based on a merger of MPs such as Eugenie Sage and Chloe Swarbrick from the Green with NZ First MPs Shane Jones and Ron Mark.

It also included the national officers: president Brent Catchpole, vice president North Island Julian Paul, vice president South Island John Thorn and treasurer Holly Hopkinson.

Nelson NZ First candidate Susan Sara, who lists herself as a board member on LinkedIn, would not comment when rung by Stuff.
