Ed Boon teases game for Nintendo Switch

'Injustice 2' news: Ed Boon teases game for Nintendo Switch

According to a report by the The Wall Street Journal, Nintendo appears to be interested in increasing the number of mature titles on its newest console to remove the stigma that its hardware is just for family-friendly content.

Nintendo has for years kept a rather family friendly image, particularly with the Wii console aimed at bringing people together to play wholesome active games. Takuya Aizu, chief executive of Inti Creates, told WSJ he was unsure if Nintendo wanted their game on the Switch.

In an interview with Gamespot, Ed Boon talked about the possibilities of a switch version of the fighting game. Some popular mature Switch games are Skyrim, Doom, and Wolfenstein II. Most companies are releasing games on the Switch, and for the first time, we might see 2 Federation Internationale de Football Association games in 1 Nintendo console.

Yes, [the Nintendo Switch port of Steep is] still planned, it's still something we have in our mind and we are focusing on.

Not that Nintendo really needs to broaden its console appeal, as the Switch is still selling very well, and the Mario and Zelda licenses attract both adult and younger gamers alike.

Nintendo knows that Switch sales have been swelling for months now, but the company wants to increase the user base.

Separately, during the E3, Microsoft stated that Minecraft would add cross-play between all the versions of the games. The accessibility of nearly every game being available to everyone has helped the company launch into worldwide recognition, but as other console manufacturers have accommodated the ageing gamers and their craving of more mature content, Nintendo has frequently remained passive on the matter. The brokerage firm now expects the Switch to sell 130 million units by 2022, compared to 70 million units previously.
