Facebook testing an info button for links to combat fake news

"Today we are starting a new test to give people additional context on the articles they see in News Feed", the company announced in a blog post.

5, Facebook users will begin seeing a new information button on shared articles.

"People have told us that they want more information about what they're reading, Sara Su, a product manager for Facebook told TechCrunch, a widely respected site that covers Silicon Valley and the tech industry".

"The additional contextual information is pulled from across Facebook and other sources, such as information from the publisher's Wikipedia entry". If there is no information provided, like if a publisher doesn't have a Wikipedia page, Facebook will display that there is no additional data. The information panel is an effort to help Facebook users determine the credibility of the publisher by providing more information about its history.
