Home favorite Garcia leads Valderrama Masters by one shot

Tournament host Sergio Garcia has a one-shot lead after 54 holes

Tournament host Sergio Garcia will take a one-shot lead into the final round of the Andalucia Valderrama Masters after shooting a 3-under 68 on Saturday.

England's Daniel Brooks was then at seven under, two shots clear of Welshman Jamie Donaldson and three ahead of South Australia's Wade Ormsby as all three men moved inside the top 101 in the ranking to secure their playing privileges for next season. He is seeking his sixth European Tour title.

Joost Luiten of the Netherlands, who led after the second round, shot an even-par 71 and was two shots behind Garcia.

"It was awesome", he said afterwards. "All three of us in that final group played incredible".

"There's still a long way (to go)", Garcia said.

Mostly sunny, high near 71 — TODAY'S FORECAST
We will experience drier and slightly warmer conditions through Wednesday before our next weather-maker arrives Wednesday night . Wednesday night , the low will be around 49 with mostly clear skies, according to the weather service.

"The people were unbelievable, amazing, so many people came out and supported, it was really a treat".

Luiten carded six birdies in a 66, but a three-putt on the 16th ultimately proved costly for the Dutchman after he had reeled in Garcia to set up a dramatic finale.

Luiten, who finished second at the Spanish Open at Valderrama previous year, has only one Top-10 finish this season despite missing only four cuts in 22 events.

Luiten's bogey five at the 16th was his downfall, though, as both birdied the par five 17th and Garcia held on with par at the last. It was the Scot's third top-10 finish of the year and lifted him 10 spots to 70th in the Race to Dubai at the end of the regular part of the season.

Sitting 78th in the Race to Dubai, Stephen Gallacher might just sneak into the Turkish Airlines Open despite an early exit in Spain, where a similar fate for Duncan Stewart has left him facing a visit to the Qualifying School after finishing 132nd on the money-list.
