Mitsubishi Shows More Of New e-Evolution Concept Ahead Of Tokyo

Mitsubishi e-Evolution concept - more details of brand's Tokyo star revealed

Scheduled to make its world debut at the Tokyo Motor Show later in October, the e-Evolution Concept is said to use artificial intelligence (AI) to best deploy the car's considerable electric power, no matter what weather conditions or road surface you encounter.

The latest announcement from the Japanese auto marque says that the all-new, all-electric SUV coupe will utilise high-torque and high-performance electric motors, supplied by a high-capacity battery system.

The Mitsubishi e-Evolution concept features three electric motors. The study features a triple motor 4WD system that employs a single motor to drive the front wheels and a new Dual Motor Active Yaw Control (AYC) system that couples two rear motors through an electronically controlled torque-vectoring Active Yaw Control (AYC) unit.

The main draw will be Mitsubishi's AI system, which will augment the capabilities of the driver, or so the company says. Some of the popular showcase vehicles will be Eclipse Cross SUV, Outlander PHEV (plug-in hybrid Electric Vehicle) and so on.

Enthusiasts eagerly await the return of the Evolution name - but Mitsubishi's e-Evolution Concept is set to be very different from the rally-inspired supersaloons of the past.

In fact, it seems as though the e-Evolution concept will emphasize a surprising amount of performance, as the AI system will also offer a "training program" of sorts, analyzing the driver's skills offering tips and pointers based on those evaluations through the infotainment system. Revealing enough sharp edges and "aerodynamic" features to rival the Toyota C-HR, it suggests there is a new design language on the cards for the brand.

And in vain it'll have to be, because Mitsubishi, now in the hands of Renault-Nissan as part of the Alliance, is focussing on electrification with the group readying 12 all-new zero-emissions vehicles by the year 2022.
