New Uber boss to hold crunch talks with TfL in licence dispute

Khosrowshahi is due to meet with TfL commissioner Mike Brown in order to discuss the removal of Uber's licence, which the body justified by saying it was not "fit and proper" to operate in the city.

It cited the firm's approach to reporting serious criminal offences and background checks on drivers.

The head of Uber's northern Europe operations has chose to leave, the U.S. ride-sharing company said Monday as it faces a licensing battle in London.

Transport for London has said it will take Uber several weeks to win back its trust after a "constructive" meeting between the company's new chief executive and senior officials.

Some 3.5 million passengers use the service in London, according to Uber.

Ever since Travis Kalanick was ousted as the CEO of Uber, the company has lurched from one trouble to another, and new CEO Dara Khosrowshahi has his hands full.

Trump tells Tillerson he's wasting his time
The standoff has entered a new, more unsafe phase since then as Kim and Trump have exchanged personal insults and threats of war. America's top diplomat has acknowledged the U.S. is in "direct contact" with North Korea.

While talks with TfL about a potential rapprochement are to continue, Uber has until 13 October to lodge a legal appeal against the transport authority's decision. "That doesn't mean abandoning our principles-we will vigorously appeal TfL's decision-but rather building trust through our actions and our behavior".

Dara Khosrowshahi's admission a few days after TfL decided not to renew its licence that Uber had "got things wrong" was already a marked change of tone from that of the taxi app's hard charging founder Travis Kalanick.

Uber said the resignation of Jo Bertram, the head of the company in northern Europe, was not related to the decision last month by Transport for London to strip it of its licence to operate in the city.

The talks were being held following an approach from Uber and at mayor Sadiq Khan's request.

The meeting comes as Mr Khosrowshahi faces pressure in the U.S. over former Uber boss Travis Kalanick's influence over the company's board. The California-based firm suffered a massive blow with the news. Uber's drivers have been protesting in London.

CEO wrote a letter to the staff in the wake of ban. London's second-biggest private hire firm, Addison Lee, said last week it was planning to increase its driver numbers in London by up to a quarter.
