Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams: New Trailer from NYCC

Toward the end of the trailer, "the future is still human", flashes across the screen as uplifting music plays on, contrasting with the usually dark, dystopian messages flaunted by similarly-themed efforts like Black Mirror or HBO's Westworld. Still, Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams may outdo its recent progenitor, what with the all-star cast and production team behind it, not to mention the author's writings anchoring each episodic entry.

A number of writers are working on the standalone episodes, including Jack Thorne, Moore, Michael Dinner, Tony Grisoni, Matthew Graham, David Farr, Dee Rees, and Travis Beacham. While the stories may be worlds apart, central to each is the poignant and warm exploration of the importance and significance of humanity.

"Dick's Electric Dreams" is actually the second Dick adaptation from Amazon, following "The Man in the High Castle".

Given that the market is now quite saturated with sci-fi projects, it remains to be seen whether or not Electric Dreams will be able to draw in a sizable audience, especially as competitors like Hulu and Netflix continue to roll out their own originals. Eagle-eyed viewers can also expect to spot Game of Thrones' Richard Madden and Liam Cunningham, Benedict Wong, Jack Reynor, Steve Buscemi, Vera Farmiga, Janelle Monáe, Greg Kinnear, and Maura Tierney, among others.

The trailer starts off with characteristic Phillip K Dick sentiment - we think "we know everything, down to the molecules and atoms of existence, but here" - in these stories - "there will always be mystery".

As well as starring in the Jessica Mecklenburg penned and Francesca Gregorini directed "Human Is" episode, Sneaky Pete's Cranston is also an executive producer on Electric Dreams. The first trailer premiered on Friday at New York Comic Con, and it offers a dazzling glimpse of Dick's many different visions of the future.
