Porter Health Care System offers activities for breast cancer awareness month

People participate in a QCS event to raise awareness of breast cancer

Instead, it means an ongoing fight and struggle against an opponent that does not rest.

Dr Justine Alford from Cancer Research UK said: "The more that we learn about the genetic components behind these increased risks of developing breast cancer in women who have a family history of the disease, the better the choice they can make about their health".

Prof Gareth Evans, who led the research into the test at Manchester University Foundation Trust, says women with a BRCA mutation have a risk of breast cancer somewhere between 30% and 90%. The partnership aims at enhancing cancer treatment facilities in the country, through the establishment of Myanmar's first ever clinic for breast cancer treatment. The research team has discovered for the first time that healthy breast tissue contains more of the bacterial species Methylobacterium, a finding which could offer a new perspective in the battle against breast cancer. A woman in the USA has a 12.4 percent, or 1 in 8, lifetime risk of being diagnosed with breast cancer.

That is the figure quoted to all women with a BRCA gene mutation, but in fact their risk of cancer is much more complex than that, and different for every person. In Myanmar, the rate of breast cancer occurrence is exceptionally high, and in addition, the lack of sufficient treatment facilities has also reflected negatively on the diagnosis.

Launched in 2014 by the former Miss Malawi, Brandina Khondowe, the initiative has been running under the theme "early detection of cancer is key for survival".

Later this month, on October 26, the Lewis Hall Singletary Oncology Center will host its sixth annual Pink Affair, its benefit fashion show with local cancer survivors.

The former Miss Malawi said several fundraising activities have been lined up including a brunch at Kumbali Lodge, whose proceeds will go towards aiding community outreach programmes in the target areas. This event incorporates inspirational stories from survivors and caregivers who see and take care of those with breast cancer every day.

Help more women celebrate a triumph over breast cancer.

Parkway's move for controlling the occurrence of breast cancer will enable the delivery of various cancer treatment therapies under a single umbrella for patients.
