Shocking study reveals you are AWARE you're dead when you die

Afterlife

This study, which is the most significant scientific studies of its kind, was done by a team of researchers led by Dr. Sam Parnia, the director of critical care and resuscitation research at NYU Langone School of Medicine in NY.

Researchers at New York University's Langone School of Medicine claim the mind continues to be aware of what's happening, even when the body has stopped showing any signs of life.

The researchers, led by Dr Sam Parnia, have been studying people who technically died after suffering a heart attack - but were later revived.

"They'll describe watching doctors and nurses working; they'll describe having awareness of full conversations, of visual things that were going on, that would otherwise not be known to them", Parnia told the publication.

He mentioned how survivor's recollections were verified by medical and nursing staff, who had reported that some patients who were confirmed dead remembered details of what the medical team were saying while they were unconscious.

Parnia performed a similar study in 2014, The Telegraph reported. The research suggests that people are aware of their being "dead" as the brain still functions several minutes after the heart stops beating.

Dr. Parnia explained that this is technically the time of death.

In the film a group of young doctors conduct a risky experiment to see what happens in the afterlife by taking turns to stop their hearts.

"Once that happens, blood no longer circulates to the brain, which means brain function halts nearly instantaneously".

On the other hand, the electrical signals that stimulate the pumping activity of the heart in cardiac arrest become obstructed - the heart stops thumping and death takes after.

The scientists are now expanding their ongoing experiment, which will be the largest of its kind, to investigate the occurrences of consciousness after death and how it may affect the rest of a person's life if they are revived.

The brain's cerebral cortex - which is responsible for thinking and processing information from the five senses - also instantly flatlines, says Dr Parnia.

The bloody supply to the brain is then cut off and its functions stop, with brain waves stopping at between two and 20 seconds after this. This will provoke a chain response of cell forms prompting the demise of brain cells, though it takes hours after the heart stops beating. "Like 'fire raging through the brain, ' activity can surge through brain areas involved in conscious experience, furnishing all resultant perceptions with realer-than-real feelings and emotions".
