Snapchat's new Context Cards give users less reason to search

Snapchat has just unveiled Context Cards, a big feature that could completely transform the way people use the picture-sharing app. Context Cards also provide a way to take simple actions like calling for a ride with Uber or Lyft or reserving a table through OpenTable, Resy or Bookatable. For example, someone may send you a picture of a plate of food they're now devouring, and add a geofilter to the image detailing where exactly they are. The information you see there will be provided by Snapchat partners like FourSquare, TripAdvisor, and Michelin.

Snaps included in Context Cards are those that have been tagged with Snapchat's venue-specific geofilters or any post that has been submitted to the Our Story section. Finding what you're looking for might now be as easy as swiping up with Context Cards, which "display information about the Snap you're viewing", the Snap team wrote in a Tuesday blog post.

The Context Cards displayed vary depending on the type of venue and the details available about the location.

White House Claims Trump Keeps 'The World From Chaos'
Trump will decertify the Iran nuclear pact next week, declaring it is not in the national interest, but let Congress decide whether to actually walk away from it.

While geo-focused snaps contain geographic information, the new Context Cards will give users so much more to look at.

Snap says it aims to always show you the most relevant information. For a peek at how Context Cards work, check out the video below.

Snap declined to disclose the financial terms of the deals with the Context Cards partners, but presumably the company has some kind of revenue-sharing agreements with them. Context Cards seem to go hand-in-hand with Snapchat Maps, and indeed, those who use Maps will probably get a lot of use out of Context Cards as well. That could include maps, menus, hours of operation and customer reviews and ratings.
