Sony to Publish Nintendo Switch and PC Games With New Label

Worlds are colliding on the Nintendo Switch.

Sony has announced it will be publishing indie games on the Switch and PC.

Today's press release indicates that Unties will specifically look to discover games with unique features that offer something special in a sea of all-too-similar titles, but more interestingly is that Sony Music Entertainment's Unties isn't a PlayStation-only platform.

On Unties' page, they hint at 4 different games ranging from Advance Wars-like TINY METAL, to mobile-to-VR ported Deemo.

Video game historians oft speak of the failed collaboration between Nintendo and Sony that spawned the original PlayStation console.

As for UNTIES, Tiny Metal is just the first game it plans on publishing. Tiny Metal heads to PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on November 21 in Japan, which means Switch users in the US and Europe can start playing the game by simply hopping on the Japanese Nintendo eShop when it launches. Last Standard and Merkava Avalanche do hold a listing of "PC/TBA", however, which suggests that the Switch and possibly the Xbox One could be included in future releases. Tiny Metal launches on the Nintendo Switch sometime later this year. Somewhere between that Kickstarter run and Untie's acquisition, the developer went through a name change (Area 34 to Area 35) and has evidently been granted access to the funds it needs to complete the game. The new publisher's slate of other upcoming games include two coming to PC, with the potential for console releases, as well as a PS4 game with PSVR compatibility.

The new label will focus on Japanese indie games, trying to build on the similar popularity shared by the North American audience for these games and distribution on the Nintendo Switch is hoped will help push the momentum of the Japanese indie dev scene amongst players.
