Titans' Mike Mularkey explains why team didn't sign Colin Kaepernick

Mularkey says he would be comfortable playing the quarterback Sunday even without a full practice. The Dolphins are off to a disappointing 1-2 start and have dropped two decisions in a row.

Mariota strained his hamstring during last week's Titans loss to the Texans.

The 6-foot-1 Tankersley supplanted veteran Byron Maxwell, who might be back in the starting lineup this week because Xavien Howard is nursing a shoulder injury.

However, the quarterback which they have signed has caused a lot of people to criticise the Titans, as they have opted to sign Brandon Weeden as a backup quarterback, over a more experienced quarterback who is still available, Colin Kaepernick. If Matt plays, it probably changes for them. For example, DE Cameron Wake, formerly one of the league's premier edge rushers, has shown to be nothing more than a situational pass rusher at this point in his career.

Along with Cutler's lack of production, Jay Ajayi has not been able to get much going on the ground. He also added 2,300 yards rushing and 13 rushing touchdowns. Weeden spent most of the rest of his time running the scout team just to get some work. As if that weren't enough, they had to do so after an embarrassing loss to division foe the New York Jets. MarQueis Gray and Jarvis Landry had success last season on drag routes and screens, which is proof that plays that are mere extensions of the run game could very well jumpstart the Dolphins' offense. Miami had 19 points in the team's lone win of the season.

Dolphins defensive tackle Jordan Phillips practiced all this week despite an ankle injury, but he will not play against the Titans on Sunday. That turnaround led the Dolphins to the playoffs and it could give the group some optimism at this time. The Dolphins need to have greater ball control to win this one.

For Tennessee the availability of Marcus Mariota remains to be determined, and even if he suits up at less than 100% his effectiveness will be a big question.

The CBS broadcast crew, featuring play-by-play artist Andrew Catalon, analyst and Pro Football Hall of Famer James Lofton and field reporter Chris Fischer, will bring you the action at 1:00 pm ET.
