Trump tells Tillerson he's wasting his time

Trump Tillerson'wasting his time negotiating with North Korea

Tillerson expressed hope for reducing tensions with North Korea, which is fast advancing toward its goal of developing a nuclear-tipped missile capable of hitting the U.S. mainland.

While Tillerson affirmed that the US would not recognize North Korea as a nuclear power, he also said the administration of US President Donald Trump had no intention of trying to oust North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Tillerson reiterated Saturday that the US would not recognize North Korea as a nuclear power, but said it also had no intention of overthrowing Kim's regime.

North Korea is working on a nuclear-tipped missile able to reach the USA mainland, and it will make thousands of refugees move to China, NBC News reported.

"He continued, ".Save your energy Rex, we'll do what has to be done!" And I think we need to calm them down first'.

The official also said that to the extent that diplomatic channels exist between Washington and Pyongyang, they are aimed at securing the return of Americans detained by North Korea.

America's top diplomat has acknowledged the U.S. is in "direct contact" with North Korea.

Trump has previously kept the door open to possible talks with North Korea. "The whole situation is a bit overheated right now", he said. 'I think everyone would like for it to calm down'.

Other than North Korea, the US and China have other security concerns to address.

The standoff has entered a new, more unsafe phase since then as Kim and Trump have exchanged personal insults and threats of war.

Mr Tillerson's comments come during a visit China.

China, Pyongyang's most important ally, on Thursday ordered North Korean companies in the country and joint ventures with Chinese firms to close within 120 days of the passing of the latest round of United Nations sanctions on September 12.

It came amid increasing diplomatic pressure on North Korea, after the country launched two intercontinental ballistic missiles, flew midrange missiles over Japan and conducted its sixth and largest nuclear test.

Tillerson, facing criticism at home for his muted impact as the top US diplomat, may also be seeking to put his own stamp on the relationship.
