Verstappen wins final Malaysian F1 Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton has admitted he believed he was lucky to achieve second place in the Malaysian Grand Prix after a hard weekend that culminated in the Mercedes driver being comprehensively outpaced by Red Bull's Max Verstappen, who won in Sepang.

Verstappen, who just celebrated his 20th birthday on Saturday, managed to overtake pole-sitter Hamilton in the fourth lap and continued his advantage in the following race, finishing the 56-lap race at one hour 30 minutes 1.290 seconds.

Despite starting from last on the grid, compared to Hamilton who will see a clear road ahead of lights out, Vettel believes that he'll be able to fight back and aim to make up positions of the race tomorrow, but admits it feels a shame that issues occurred when his auto felt positive.

"The whole race went well".

Behind Raikkonen at the start of the Malaysian Grand Prix will feature two of the pilot "Red bull" - Verstappen and Ricardo. The 5.5km circuit however, possesses more high-speed corners - which with the new cars, should be taken up to 20kmph faster than 2016.

Daniel Ricciardo drove a solid race in Sepang to pick up his eighth podium of the season, but will he see this as a missed opportunity for his sixth win in Formula 1?

Mercedes have taken little satisfaction from increasing their world title leads over Ferrari in the Malaysia GP - with Toto Wolff anxious by their sudden pace slump.

To have one driver - a contender for the title, no less - start from the back of the grid and another fail to make the race was, to put it mildly, not the ideal scenario for Ferrari at Sepang. Hamilton, however, has won three of four races since that time and has a cushion of 34 points ahead of the German with five races to negotiate.

Manchester United are back and can challenge in Europe, claims Roy Keane
Mourinho said: "Without Zlatan, we can not rotate the striker, especially because Marcus Rashford is playing in other positions".

"To be honest I don't know if we're going to miss it", the Finn told reporters.

"Especially after the season I've had, I think this victory came at a very good time", he said. "The race wasn't going on so it wasn't intentional for either of us".

"Obviously, we had some issues. I think Lance wasn't looking and wanted to do the same, but that was too late, I was there already", Vettel said.

"Set-up is always a compromise in Malaysia as you need a good auto in the middle sector, but you also can't afford to lose too much time on those long straights". Hamilton said that his auto still has "a fundamental issue" and they need to keep pushing.

He was picking off the back markers easily courtesy of his second new engine of the weekend. Running on super-soft tires, Vettel closed his gap with Ricciardo to less than one seconds.

In a final twist to a wild weekend, Montreal's Lance Stroll, driving for Williams, smashed into the side of Vettel's auto on the warm-down lap, cutting it nearly in half. "I mean, seriously", Vettel exclaimed.

Vettel's auto was launched into the air, wrecking its left-rear wheel and forcing him to a halt and raising the spectre of gearbox damage.

"That's impossible", a stunned Vettel said.
