White Nationalist gather again in Charlottesville

A group of white nationalists held a torch-lit rally in Charlottesville on Oct. 7 2017.

They clashed with counter protesters over a two day period, the violence surging to the point that one young woman, Heather Heyer, was murdered when white supremacist, James Alex Fields, Jr. deliberately drove his vehicle into a crowd. Heyer died when a vehicle rammed into a crowd of counterprotesters marching through Charlottesville.

About 40 to 50 white nationalists, including noted organizer Richard Spencer, gathered in Charlottesville, Va., for a brief rally.

White nationalists also rallied in Charlottesville on May 13 to protest plans to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. Whether the statue will remain or be removed depends on a legal challenge after a court blocked its removal.

The marchers were heard chanting "you will not replace us", and "we will be back", WCAV reports.

Richard Spencer, a leader in the neo-fascist movement, posted a video on Twitter calling the rally "a great success" and revelling in the unannounced provocation as a "model" he hoped to repeat.

Charlottesville has since shrouded the monument with a black tarp as a symbol of mourning for the woman who was killed.

He has previously made a series of controversial comments at public events, including allegedly advocating "peaceful" ethnic cleansing.

"We are here to represent white America's interests!" he said, shouting.

Another speaker said, "Hello, Charlottesville".

"Hello, Charlottesville. We have a message".

In related news, a local NBC affiliate called Spencer's march a gathering of "white activists" which spurred the ire of Twitter, especially in light of the government saying that the Federal Bureau of Investigation is on the lookout for "Black Identity Extremists".

Officers followed the tour bus to make sure the group left the city. You're not welcome here!

But Mayor Mike Signer, a fervent critic of the group, denounced the protest, tweeting: "Another despicable visit by neo-Nazi cowards". "We came in peace tonight". "We came, we triggered, we left". "We got in and out, there were no injuries, no major confrontations", Spencer said in a Twitter video. "Their message of hate and bigotry and use of torches have one goal: to further intimidate and divide our community".

The Confederates lost the US Civil War in the mid-19th century, which broke out over the proposed abolition of slavery.
