14-Year Old Video Game Cheater Sued, Mom Defends Him

Mom Claims Teen is a'Scapegoat When Sued by Epic Games for Cheating- Fortnite

This software typically makes it easier to aim guns, allowing players to automate the act of defeating opponents. Well, it seems like Epic Games has shown the meaning of "Zero Tolerance" for anyone who is willing to cheat on their game. Suing an individual user instead of simply banning them is an unorthodox and controversial move because it echoes the misguided actions of the music recording industry in its attempt to crackdown on piracy. It has just been revealed that one of the players being taken to court is a 14-year old! In it, she makes some very valid claims/points regarding the actions of her son.

Her first point is that Fortnite's terms require parental consent for minors, which she says was never given.

However, this is where it starts to get really tricky.

The suit said some of the players publicly boasted about cheating and encouraged others to do the same, a practice that cost Epic lost sales and profits. Rogers then proceeded to challenge this takedown request, which put Epic into the position of either dropping the claim or file a suit against him, with the latter being the company's choice. Epic is suing both of them for "infringing Epic's copyrights by injecting unauthorised computer code into the copyright protected code".

Some 'bone treats' risky for dogs, FDA says after 15 deaths
It also suggests pet owners talk with their veterinarian about other toys or treats that are most appropriate for your dog. Don't give pets chicken bones or other bones from the kitchen table as they can cause injury when chewed as well.

When the lawsuits began last month, Epic cited that the two cheaters were using, and were allegedly associated with, the site Addicted Cheats in order to obtain "aimbots" in game. Cheating sucks, but Epic's heavy-handed approach could come back to haunt them. One of them is a 14-year-old minor.

Although Epic was just pursuing what it legally thought was right to do to protect its game, the company made the mistake of publicly naming the 14-year-old cheater, which is not legal according to DE state law. Best to focus on the people actually making and profiting from cheats (which Epic is also doing). You want to take it to cheaters, but the reality is, a large portion of them are just kids who don't understand what they're potentially getting themselves into. We agree to these contracts without reading them or even understanding what types of behavior scale from prohibited to illegal. In addition, the pair live streamed the use of the program in the game. The code injection relates to an aimbot used in the game. By law the company was obliged to remove, or to go to court. These are players who, increasingly, are playing games that are given out for free online that involve interacting with other human beings - all with little rules, protections, or guardrails to regulate their behavior.

You see, the poor cheater is only 14.
