A redesigned, High-End iPad with Face ID Coming in 2018

Apple's iPad could drop the home button and add Face ID in 2018

The iPad itself is enjoying a bit of a renaissance this year, thanks largely to the launch of the 10.5-inch iPad Pro and the new, affordable 9.7-inch iPad.

Benjamin imagines an iPad Pro that uses Apple's Face ID facial recognition system that unlocks a device via authentication of a registered users facial features. That said, not everyone is a fan of change, and if you find yourself loving the iPhone X display but otherwise aren't yet ready to let go of the home button, there's a workaround you can implement in iOS 11 that will provide you with a digital home button on the screen.

Notably, the general consensus surrounding Face ID is that the feature works exactly as advertised.

Apple is working on a completely redesigned high-end new iPad that will have an "all screen" display with thinner bezels and Face ID like the iPhone X.

However, the new version of the tablet is unlikely to include an OLED screen, which provides more vivid colors and sharper clarity, the people said.

Obviously, Apple taking the technical achievements of its iPhone X and spreading them around its other products was bound to happen, but if it really is in the next iPad revision then Apple's moving pretty quickly to capitalize on its main iPhone X innovations. Apple did the same thing with the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus this year.

As depicted in the image above, we believe the new iPad will still have some bezels due to the way tablets are held compared to smartphones. More likely is early 2018 alongside the annual iPad refresh which we hope will have Face ID.

Tablet sales have taken a 17 percent decline globally over the last three years and Apple certainly felt it.
