Amazon Fire TV Stick available in New Zealand

Amazon launches $50 Fire TV Stick Basic Edition in more than 100 markets

It features 802.11ac Wi-Fi and offers support for High Efficiency Video Codec for 1080p streaming.

What has changed is the Basic Edition's remote, which no longer has the Alexa voice control integration that the previous generation's remote included.

Amazon has launched a new version of its Fire TV Stick. Previously, Prime Video was limited to smartphones, tablets, the web and smart TVs, but now customers can plug this HDMI dongle into any TV and start streaming.

According to Amazon, it is launching the Fire Stick to provide a simpler way for consumers in those countries to access Amazon Prime Video, home of The Grand Tour, Transparent and not a whole lot else, frankly.

The Amazon Fire TV Stick Basic Edition is powered by the quad-core Mediatek 8127D at 1.3 GHz, and comes with 1GB RAM and 8GB storage.

Prime Video, which costs US$5.99 (NZ$8.70) a month, launched in New Zealand a year ago and features shows such as Grand Tour, the Man in the High Castle and American Gods. Then you can stream Prime Video, Netflix, TV shows, movies, and more.

Amazon's Fire TV Stick Basic Edition, a streaming media player, is now available in over 100 countries - including South Africa. Additionally, the interface language can only be set to Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, Italian, German, or English.

Fire TV Stick Basic Edition costs $49.99 CAD in Canada, which is a no-brainer to connect all of your TVs to Prime Video, YouTube and more.

One quick look at the list of specifications and it becomes clear that we've seen this Fire TV Stick before. There's also a 4K HDR version of Fire Stick for $69 United States dollars, which could eventually reach Canada at some point, too. It's only natural that the Fire TV Stick device becomes readily available in more regions.

Pricing varies in each locality.

Amazon also recently introduced a new Fire TV, which supports 4K Ultra HD and High Dynamic Range content, and comes with an Alexa Voice Remote.
