Antares Rocket Launch Scrubbed Until Sunday Morning

The launch of an Orbital ATK Antares rocket from NASA's Wallops Island Flight Facility in Virginia is scheduled for 7:37 a.m. Saturday, and, weather permitting, will be visible from CT to North Carolina.

Orbital ATK's Cygnus mission will be launched on Sunday morning after scrubbing its original lift-off on Saturday. But it was scrubbed after NASA said an aircraft flew into the restricted area. Sunday's launch attempt is set for 7:14 a.m. EST.

The mission is a part of Orbital ATK's Commercial Resupply Services with NASA.

The culprit, a small personal aircraft that entered the restricted airspace was within a 6 miles (10 kilometers) offshore flying at an altitude of about 500 feet, which could have been unsafe for the lift-off.

"We were working no issues until an aircraft flew into restricted airspace", the company said on Twitter. "We are now de-tanking and will be ready to go tomorrow morning".

To study microgravity's effect on bacterial antibiotic resistance, scientists are set to send E. coli, a common bacterial pathogen linked to urinary tract infections and foodborne illnesses, to the International Space Station (ISS). These, given the subfreezing temperatures, were clad in mittens, woolen hats and their heaviest coats.

Should skies remain clear, it was predicted the rocket launched would be seen from as far north as Boston to as far south as SC.

Little did they know they would be pushing back the launch anyway.

It will be the shipping firm's first launch from Virginia in more than a year - its last resupply mission used another company's rocket flying from Cape Canaveral, Florida.

In September, competitor Northrup Grumman announced plans to buy Orbital for $7.8 billion.
