Apple is working on a solution to its infuriating letter 'i' bug

Weird iOS 11.1 bug autocorrects i to A -- here's how to fix it

If you've updated your iPhone or iPad to iOS 11.1, you may well have encountered a odd autocorrect bug.

The letter "i" is the fifth-most popular letter in the English language.

The latest software update was iOS 11, which went live on September 19. To make the text replacement, open the Settings app, tap General, tap Keyboard and tap Text Replacement.

Like all iOS 11 releases, iOS 11.1 is compatible with iPhone 5S or later, iPad mini 2 or later and the 6th generation iPod touch or later. Hit the + button, and in the phrase option type "I" plus "i" in the shortcut option box. While Apple has promised a software update to fix the issue, it has in the meanwhile provided a workaround that can bring some ease. The lowercase letter "i" is being replaced by gibberish.

Apple is releasing hundreds of new ones with the iOS 11.1 update for iPhones and iPads.

The other way to fix the glitch in the interim is to download and use a third-party keyboard app. Then click the plus sign in the corner to add a new text replacement.

Apple has not responded to a request for comment. Which, judging by the fact that "I" is a relatively important letter in the English language, will probably be sooner than later.

'WTF if wrong with iPhone now and this stupid symbols when I type the letter I!,' user @TheJeanAbraham wrote.

Apple has patched a number of bugs in the past year, with many related to security, as TechRepublic's Brandon Vigliarolo reported.
