Huge fire rips through block of flats in NY

Hundreds of firefighters responded to a 5-alarm fire at an apartment building in the Manhattan neighborhood of Hamilton Heights in New York City.

The Fire Department of NY said more than 200 firefighters were at the scene.

There are no reports of any serious injuries.

"Upon arrival we found very heavy fire conditions on the top floor". Crews are fighting the blaze from ladders and also from the rooftops of adjacent buildings as the fire continues to spread through neighboring apartments.

Dozens of people, including residents and store owners, have lined the streets of the hectic scene.

The building is both residential and retail.

Despite fluctuations, cost of Thanksgiving dinner to be less than $50
While Farm Bureau does not make any scientific claims about the data, it is an informal gauge of price trends around the nation. That's roughly $1.40 per pound, a decrease of 2 cents per pound, or a total of 36 cents per whole turkey , compared to 2016.

Some witnesses told PIX11 that sections of the building's facade are falling to the street below.

The fire department said Friday night that much of the roof has burned away.

He said firefighters would enter the building to search for the missing tenant as soon as it was deemed safe. They helped each other evacuate, and began evacuating pets.

Although officials had earlier feared it would collapse, the structure was now stabilized, he said.

"I tried to get as many people out as I could, I started banging on doors and just screaming 'fire fire, '" Carter said, according to WPIX. "These things can be replaced, material things, but a human life can't".
