I was 'outed' by director Brett Ratner — Ellen Page

Ellen Page

Actress Ellen Page claims that director Brett Ratner made homophobic and misogynistic comments to her on the set of his 2006 movie, "X-Men: The Last Stand". Ratner was the film's director.

Page claims that when she was 18 years old, during a cast and crew meeting for X Men: The Last Stand, Ratner told a woman 10 years Page's senior that she should "fuck her to make her realize she's gay".

"I was a young adult who had not yet come out to myself", Page said in her statement. I am grateful to anyone and everyone who speaks out against abuse and trauma they have suffered. I felt violated when this happened. "We are all entitled to come into an awareness of our sexual orientation privately and on our own terms". "I had yet to find my voice and was not who I am now and felt pressured, because "of course you have to say yes to this Woody Allen film". I was an actor that no one knew. Making someone feel ashamed of who they are is a cruel manipulation, created to oppress and repress.

Ratner's representative is yet to respond to The Telegraph's request for comment.

Earlier this month, the Los Angeles Times released a report with Ratner accused of sexual harassment and misconduct by six women. At the time, his lawyer said Ratner "vehemently disputes" those allegations. He filed a libel suit against a former talent agency employee who wrote on Facebook that Ratner had forced himself on her.

Her comments were backed by X-Men co-star Anna Paquin, who tweeted: "I was there when that comment was made". She said later she was reprimanded by producers in her trailer for disobeying the director.

Page is the latest actor to publicly express regret for working with Allen, while actresses such as Kate Winslet and Scarlett Johansson have received criticism in recent years for taking roles in the iconic director's films.

Brett Ratner speaks onstage the 100th anniversary celebration of the Beverly Hills Hotel & Bungalows supporting the Motion Picture & Television Fund and the American Comedy Fund hosted by Brett Ratner and Warren Beatty at Beverly Hills Hotel on June 16, 2012 in Beverly Hills, California. "He fondled my leg under the table and said, 'You have to make the move, I can't.' I did not make the move and I was fortunate to get away from that situation", she wrote.

"It was a painful realization: my safety was not guaranteed at work", Page wrote.

She explains: "I want to see these men have to face what they have done".

"If I, a person with significant privilege, remain reluctant and at such risk simply by saying a person's name, what are the options for those who do not have what I have?" she asks. "We've learned that the status quo perpetuates unfair, victimizing behavior to protect and perpetuate itself".
