Man Utd board lay out January transfer window plans

Jose Mourinho sends clear message to Man United fans about Ander Herrera

Once again, Manchester United lost a big game and it feels like the club is in a crisis.

Manchester City are yet to lose a league game this season and only dropped points at home in a drawn game against Everton.

Unfortunately, the same can not be said about today's Manchester United, under the pragmatic and self-proclaimed "special one", Jose Mourinho.

Jose Mourinho will not be able to add to his Manchester United squad in the January transfer window unless he offloads some of the fringe players at Old Trafford.

This verdict is delivered by Simon Stone, a journalist with good contacts at Manchester United.

Despite reported interest in Mourinho from Paris Saint-Germain, Man United are not prepared to bow to his demands so easily and have insisted that he offload some of the club's fringe players before he can bring in new signings.

Having released their financial results back in September, the club revealed that their wage bill had gone up by by 13.5% which translates to a total of £263.5m spent on paying their stars.

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw is likely to leave the club in January after Jose Mourinho was told he must sell before he can buy more players.

Mourinho has been allowed to spend big since taking over the reins at the start of last season, splashing out £285million on six major signings.

The future of Marouane Fellaini is also unclear.

Things took a turn for the worse when Jose Mourinho was appointed as Man United manager.

As it stands, Mourinho's new deal at Manchester United has not been announced, despite plenty of reports that it is agreed.

While the fact that Mourinho won't finish up his career in Manchester came as a surprise to few, his apparent frustration at the fans and Ed Woodward, who has yet to offer him a contract extension, could make the PSG talk more credible.

City, meanwhile, outspent United by over £70m, as Pep Guardiola moved to address the issues that had derailed his side during his first campaign in the Premier League and is now reaping the benefits of his summer business.
