Netflix confirms Drake-produced Top Boy will return in 2019

Thanks to Drake, Netflix will bring the gritty world of London's East End to global screens after ordering a new season of "Top Boy", the British crime drama that ran for two seasons on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom.

The Hotline Bling rapper bought the rights to the show previous year (16) after it was dropped by British broadcaster Channel 4 in 2013 after just two seasons.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Drake found the original seasons on YouTube and fell in love with their depiction of London.

He's already the executive producer of The Carter Effect, a documentary focused on NBA All-Star Vince Carter.

Top Boy starred Ashley Walters, Kane Robinson, Shone Romulus and Malcolm Kamulete. The next chapter, consisting of 10 new episodes, will be written by show creator Ronan Bennett and executive produced by the original creative team of Bennett, Charles Steel and Yann Demange. Drake will exec produce alongside his business partner, Adel "Future" Nur, with Maverick Carter and Jamal Henderson for LeBron James' SpringHill Entertainment banner.

When Channel Four confirmed that it had dropped the show, fans thought that was it for Dushane and the rest of the Summerhouse Estate.

A press release from Netflix offers a brief synopsis of the new season which "picks up as Dushane (Walters) returns from exile to his home in London to reclaim his throne in the highly lucrative drug market".

He said: "We met up to start talking about the show and we are working out a role for him".

They tweeted 'Several months ago Drake came to us with a passion to helping bring #TopBoy back to life with the original creative team'. The pair run up against Jamie, a ruthless young gang leader.
