Netflix warns customers of membership suspension scam

Screen Shot

A well designed Netflix email targets some of the 110 million Netflix subscribers worldwide!

The official-looking email warns users that their account is about to be canceled unless they update their account information.

The emails in question include a link leading to a fake Netflix login page (created on a compromised WordPress blog) which further asks for users' credit card information, billing address, driver's license, etc.

The company says if you clicked the link and provided any personal information, you should immediately change your Netflix password and contact your financial institution.

Once the scammers have all the data they're after, the tricked Netflix subscriber is shown the message, "Your membership has been reactivated". The customer is then taken to a fake Netflix site in order to add their credit card payment information. Therefore, the customer should check emails carefully to separate the real one from the fake ones.

Netflix sends out emails to its subscribers from time to time.

A phishing email scam is targeting millions of Netflix users of the popular streaming service telling them that their accounts are in danger of suspension. It's definitely more sophisticated than the last Netflix email phishing attempt.

The company made a statement that it takes subscribers' accounts seriously, and it will continue to take measures to recognize fraudulent activity to keep all accounts safe. The look and feel of the email is decidedly Netflix inspired and, equally as important, the email itself isn't suspiciously forceful or coercive.
