Nintendo to Heavily Increase Switch Production in 2018

Nintendo reportedly upping Nintendo Switch production next year

If Nintendo manages to do so, it will have shipped 50 million units by April 2019, which is an impressive feat, considering one of the company's most successful home consoles, the Wii, shipped 50 million units in three years. Nintendo is not slowing down as more great games will be out in 2018.

This graph shows post-release Nintendo Switch sellthrough trends for the North American market. In other words, the Switch could beat the Wii U in under a year with a big holiday marketing push, and in all likelihood it'll eclipse it early in 2018. It is getting both strong first party and third party support.

JC Penney is the bright spot for retail this week
Penney from a buy rating to a strong-buy rating and set a $10.35 price objective on the stock in a report on Monday, October 3rd. To avoid making a mountain out of a molehill, let's see whether today changed the technical posture of JCP stock's death spiral.

From the day the Switch launched on March 3rd up through the end of September, Nintendo sold 7.6 million Switch consoles worldwide. Still, if Nintendo could maintain a pace of 30 million or more units sold a year, that would seem to put the PlayStation 4 within striking distance at some distant point in the consoles' lifecycles, depending on how long each lasts.

If Nintendo's sales forecasts are accurate, the Switch is about on-track to rival, or exceed, the PS4's sales in its first year - Sony's console sold 18.5 million units in about 13.5 months. Nintendo's popular Switch console should be a hot commodity, and the company has vowed there will be no shortages could stymie shoppers. Breath of the Wild's sales (of the game's Switch version), meanwhile, have surpassed 4.7 million; and Mario Kart 8 has sold more than 4.4 million copies. Here's to hoping that alongside the tens of millions of Switches come a few Classics, too.
