No. 4 Louisville gets bye in NCAA men's soccer tournament

The 2017 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship Selection took place November 13 and it featured the Mid-American Conference champions, The University of Akron Men's Soccer team.

The Mountaineers (16-3-2), seeded second, will face No. 22-ranked Rutgers (13-2-5) in the nightcap of Friday night's action, with kick set for 7 p.m. Making their 10th NCAA Championship appearance in the last 11 seasons, the Cardinals (11-2-4) earned a first round bye and will host the victor of Thursday's California-San Francisco contest (played in Berkeley) in a second round match on Sunday at 5 p.m., ET at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium.

With the berth, Virginia earned a first round bye in this season's tournament. Akron, Indiana, Maryland and Virginia are the only programs that have qualified for the NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship tournament in each of the past 11 seasons.The Zips look promising coming off their MAC Championship victory over Western Michigan.

Notre Dame previously faced nine other qualifiers during the regular season, and Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship matches, entering 2017 NCAA tournament play. NC State and Virginia Tech also earned NCAA Championship bids for the ACC.

The Spartans have lost only one game at DeMartin Stadium in the last two seasons.

Wake Forest earned the No. 1 overall seed after bringing home its second ACC Championship in as many years. The Spartans advanced to the Elite Eight that season before being edged by Providence, 3-2, in East Lansing.

Following Thursday's first round and Sunday's second round games, the NCAA Championship continues with third round matchups on November 25 or 26 at campus sites.
