NV: Human-Driven Truck Hits Driverless Autonomous Bus

AAA Keolis Self Driving Shuttle

It's been a mixed week for self-driving vehicles, after an autonomous bus in Las Vegas collided with a truck just two hours after it hit the streets.

Before it crashed, dozens of people had lined up to get a free trip on a 0.6-mile loop in downtown Las Vegas. There have been 12 crashes in California alone since September 8 involving General Motors Co's self-driving unit, Cruise Automation.

Reporter Jeff Zurschmeide, who was on the shuttle at the time of the crash, said the self-driving vehicle did what it was programmed to do but not everything a human driver might do.

The Navya Arma, an autonomous and electric vehicle operated by Keolis North America, went into service on Wednesday. And then it hit us.

"The shuttle didn't have the ability to move back".

Although it wasn't a major crash, the incident made headlines because it occurred just a few hours into the shuttle's first day of service.

Penn State has hit the over in eight of its last nine games in November and in six of its last seven games following a loss. The Ashburn, Virginia, native passed former Nittany Lion quarterback Daryll Clark, who finished with 65 career touchdowns.

The human driver of the other vehicle was reportedly at fault, and there are no reported injuries from the incident. "Unfortunately, the human element, the driver of the truck, didn't stop".

"The shuttle did what it was supposed to do, in that its sensors registered the truck and the shuttle stopped", the city said.

According to a report, the bus "has an attendant and a computer monitor, and uses Global Positioning System and electric curb sensors instead of brake pedals or a steering wheel".

The bus was developed by French company Navya and uses Global Positioning System, electronic kerb sensors and other technology to find its way along Vegas streets with a strict 15mph limit.

Police were called to the scene and the truck driver was issued a ticket, Moreno said.

While the accident put the shuttle out of action for the rest of the day, it isn't the end of the trial, which will continue for a full year as planned. The year-long pilot project, sponsored by AAA Northern California, Nevada and Utah, is expected to carry 250,000 people. AAA chose Las Vegas for the launch because of the state's progressive regulations on autonomous vehicles, heavy investment in innovation, the high volume of visitors and a sunny, dry climate that's favorable for testing new driving technology.
