Old Vic reveals 20 allegations of 'inappropriate behaviour' against Kevin Spacey

Kevin Spacey was artistic director at the Old Vic from 2004 to 2015

A London theater that previously employed Kevin Spacey says 20 people have come forward with allegations of "inappropriate behavior" against him.

The complaints surround Spacey's time as Artistic Director at the world-renowned theatre - a title he held for eleven years. Inappropriate behavior by anyone working at The Old Vic is completely unacceptable.

As a result, it has received 20 separate allegations by men of Spacey's inappropriate behaviour, with 14 of them so serious, victims were urged to contact police.

The theatre has said it will develop a set of conduct rules and behavioural expectations in the wake of the allegations, dividing categories of behaviour into "OK and Not OK".

Netflix cut ties with Spacey after current and former "House of Cards" production staff came forward with allegations of sexual harassment in a CNN report.

Varah told press the theatre apologised to "the people who feel they were affected by this".

"There are a lot of us who have a 'Kevin Spacey story'". We want anyone who works here to feel confident, valued and proud to be part of The Old Vic family'.

Spacey's successor as artistic director, Matthew Warchus, said, "These allegations have been a shock and a disturbing surprise to many of us".

Richard Miskella, a partner at Lewis Silkin who led the investigation, said the firm invited Spacey to participate in the investigation "and he didn't respond".

It would seem that open culture needs to extend way beyond the walls of the Old Vic. Misuse of power within film and theatre seems to be a problem that's systemic.

Spacey issued an apology over the October 30 allegation by Anthony Rapp dating back to 1986 but has not spoken in public about subsequent claims of misconduct.

Spacey is one of the biggest names in Hollywood to lose work after USA media had published articles shedding light on sexual harassment and abuse allegations against Harvey Weinstein.

Of the 20 alleged incidents, only one was reported during the time it occurred.

'It is incorrect, unfair and irresponsible to say that everybody knew. "But as a result of the investigation, what we have learnt is how better to call out this behavior in future".

More than 50 women have said that Weinstein sexually harassed or assaulted them over the past three decades and the Hollywood producer has been expelled from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The manager "didn't do anything" and the individual in question, who has now come forward confidentially, asked the investigation not to be taken any further.
