Rihanna And Kim Kardashian Join The Fight To Free Cyntoia Brown

The teenager was a sex trafficking victim who ran away from home and was living with a 24-year-old man, called "Cut-throat", who physically and sexually abused her, according to the Associated Press.

Cyntoia Brown was imprisoned in 2006 over the death of real estate agent Johnny Allen, who solicited her when she was just 16.

Brown testified that "Cut-throat" had pulled a gun on her, forced her to strip, and once choked her until she nearly passed out.

But after being taken to Allen's home, Brown grabbed one of her captor's guns and killed him, as she feared that the former army sharp shooter planned to kill her. She has already served almost 13 years in prison and, according to Newsweek, will be eligible for parole after serving 51 years behind bars.

And why are celebrities like Rihanna, T.I., Kim Kardashian, LeBron James and Gabrielle Union burning up social media talking about her case?

She said, "Once again the justice system fails".

"We have to do better and do what's right".

In 2004, she was sold to Johnny Mitchell Allen, a 43-year-old realtor.

Over the last day or so the story of Cyntoia Brown has swept the internet.

Many have branded the case a miscarriage of justice, pointing out that she was tried as an adult and sent to prison for prostitution and murder.

Other celebrities that have spoke out against Cyntoia's wrongful sentencing include singer Rihanna, model and actress Cara Delevingne, actress Bella Thorne, and Fifth Harmony member Lauren Jauregui. The documentary generated renewed interest in her case and helped her find a lawyer to push for sentencing relief. I have the stigma of being an inmate", Brown said of her achievement "But I try not to get caught up in the negative. "To each of you responsible for this child's sentence I hope to God you don't have children, because this could be your daughter being punished for punishing already!" The jury rejected her claim of self-defense and found her guilty of first-degree premeditated murder, first-degree felony murder and especially aggravated robbery. However, prosecutors argued that Brown robbed Allen after she killed him, with his trousers, wallet, and some guns in her possession when apprehended. After getting her G.E.D., she got an associate degree from Lipscomb University, a private Christian college in Nashville that teaches classes at the prison. Brown was charged with prostitution as well as murder, but now anyone under the age 18 is automatically considered a victim of sex trafficking, instead of being charged with prostitution.

Attorneys who appealed Brown's case also showed that her brain had been affected by fetal alcohol syndrome, as her mother drank heavily while pregnant.

She also works as an unpaid consultant for the Juvenile Justice system. She is now facing a minimum of 51 years in prison. "She ended her post with the hashtags "#FREECYNTOIABROWN" and "#HowManyMore".
