Sen. Paul suffers minor injury in home assault

The senator and former contender for the GOP presidential nomination suffered minor injuries and is "fine, " said Kelsey Cooper, his communications director.

Rand Paul, Kentucky Republican, was assaulted at his home in Bowling Green, Ky., his office confirmed Saturday.

A man accused of assaulting Republican U.S. Senator Rand Paul on Friday in the lawmaker's Bowling Green home has been charged with fourth-degree assault, Kentucky State Police said.

Police were not immediately clear on why Boucher allegedly assaulted Paul.

State troopers responded to a call to the senator's residence at 3:21 p.m. Friday.

Twitter introduces new 'safeguards' after briefly deleting Trump's account
I guess the word must finally be getting out-and having an impact", Trump tweeted on Friday. The account was down for 11 minutes, and has since been restored.

Police said Boucher "intentionally assaulted" Paul, causing him "minor injury". He was being held in custody in lieu of a $5,000 bond as of Saturday afternoon, according to the jail's website.

Paul, an ophthalmologist, dropped out of the race for president in February 2016 and successfully ran for re-election as a senator.

Investigations into the reasoning behind Paul's assault are still underway.

No other information is being released at this time.
