Trump Adds 5 Names to His List of Supreme Court Possibilities

Georgia Supreme Court Justice Britt Grant listens during oral arguments in Atlanta on Jan. 9 2017

Grant joins colleague Keith Blackwell on Trump's list of conservative jurists.

The move also was a not-so-subtle signal to Trump's core supporters that the president may still have the ability to deliver on his promise to nominate conservative justices.

Kevin Newsom, who is a judge on the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, also took on Roe v. Wade in an article that he authored back in 2000, which compared the landmark decision legalizing abortion to Dred Scott, an 1857 decision made by the Supreme Court which upheld slavery.

Trump and congressional Republicans have not passed any major legislation since he took office in January despite controlling the White House and Congress.

Trump already has taken steps to make the federal judiciary more conservative, with 14 judicial appointees already confirmed by the Senate and more in the pipeline.

The United states senate has recently voted to validate Fourteen of President Trumps judicial nominees, which includes Donald Coggins on Thurs, as district judge within SC. That includes Supreme Court appointee Neil Gorsuch, eight others on regional appeals courts ranking just below the Supreme Court and five on trial courts.

Democrats, who accused Republicans of impeding nominations from Trump's Democratic predecessor Barack Obama, have said Republicans are trying to ram Trump's nominees through the Senate, including some they say lack basic qualifications.

Conservative organizations, only a few weeks ago, have been demeaning US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell with the tempo of confirmations, well, it seems that now they are applauding him.

In a move certain to please conservatives, President Donald Trump on Friday added five names to his list of candidates for a prospective US Supreme Court vacancy as he presses ahead with a campaign to move the federal judiciary to the right.

"Whenever history books will be written about this Trump administration, I really believe probably the most long-lasting and also substantial legacy would be the women and men appointed as well as confirmed towards the federal government bench", Republican Senator Ted Cruz explained in a Senate Judiciary Board hearing on Wednesday.

Trump successfully appointed Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court earlier this year and while it's by no means certain that he will get to make a second appointment, a number of justices now on the bench are nearing - or have already celebrated - their 80th birthdays. The amount has since then risen over to one hundred sixty.

When Trump originally released his list previous year, the court was short a justice.

Having a more conservative judiciary could be pivotal on legal disputes involving presidential powers, the death penalty, religious rights, litigation involving corporations and other matters.

"Our opponents of judicial nominees frequently claim the president has outsourced his selection of judges".

During Wednesday's Judiciary Committee hearing for six Trump judicial nominees, Democrats said Republicans were acting on too many too quickly, preventing proper questioning of the candidates.

Trump's choices won instant acclaim from conservatives. Goldman explained, nearly all have got a link with the actual Federalist Society, offering a "very constant ideological vetting procedure".

The White House on Friday released an updated list of 25 potential Supreme Court nominees. The majority of nominees that have been announced have ties to the conservative group of lawyers.
