UFC 218: TJ Dillshaw calls for super fight with Demetrious Johnson

In the first round of the UFC 217 co-main event Cody Grabrandt had Dillashaw dead to rights. Dillashaw worked an inside leg kick, then danced away from a Garbrandt right. Garbrandt proved that point just before the rounded ended, catching Dillashaw with a counter right that dropped him. Dillashaw tried to get inside, but was met with a left hook. In the next exchange, Dillashaw landed a right hand that sent Garbrandt down for the second time. "You're nearly there.' I said 'I promise you that I'll make it to the UFC and I'll take you to every fight and I'll win the world title'". Despite what the judges said that night, Dillashaw always felt like he was the champion.

While the stoppage was certainly warranted - Cody was not intelligently defending himself - he was still moving and very much conscious in immediately going head-to-head with the victor.

A native of Uhrichsville, Ohio, Garbrandt was previously unbeaten in 11 professional MMA bouts, but was defeated by his former Team Alpha Male training partner.

But the 31-year-old then promised to drop down a weight class to end Johnson's reign as champion of the 125lb-limited flyweight division. I'm not a big (bantamweight). It was a testament to Garbrandt's blazing hand speed and punching power. I was fighting number one contenders. If I have to wipe out the whole f*cking division - I will. "I'm getting that belt at 125".

But it didn't take long for Dillashaw to turn things in his favor the rest of the way. And that's that. I stand behind everything that I said about T.J., but I give him respect for going out there and capitalizing on a mistake, but I truly am the better fighter, and I want that rematch. "Demetrious Johnson I'm coming for you!" "You got that record and it's fake".

Dillashaw got up from an early knockdown to regain the 135-pound title he lost almost two years ago by disputed decision with a second-round TKO of Garbrandt in the co-main event of UFC 217 at Madison Square Garden.

"I don't", he said.
