Victory Day for Call of Duty: WW2, Launch Sales Top $500 Million

The Call of Duty franchise shows no sign of slowing down with the debut of Call of Duty: WWII.

But the team at Activision, who had seen Call of Duty's meteoric growth since it's inception 15 years ago, sensed that fans in 2017 would desire a return to the title's roots; historical gameplay set in the WWII era, which all of the first 6 titles in the series had been set.

According to company estimates, the $500 million figure tops the box office openings for Thor: Ragnarok and Wonder Woman combined.

Call of Duty: WWII has been out for less than a week and it's already setting and breaking some ridiculous records. Twice as many copies of WWII were sold at launch compared to previous year, which featured Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered.

The gripping, personal narrative, boots-on-the-ground multiplayer and terrifying nazi zombies mode attracted players worldwide resulting in the highest total connected users on current generation consoles and PC in Call of Duty history. "And we're committed to supporting the community with continuous improvements and new content".

In a recent press release, the studio announced that the World War II-themed shooter made more than $500 million in just three days. After surviving the beaches of Normandy, Red and his squad will fight their way across Europe, engaging the enemy in iconic battle locations such as the Hürtgen Forest and the Battle of the Bulge, as they make their way into Germany. This is good news for Call of Duty developer and publisher but the Steam reviews aren't very positive. This is an unbelievable feat nonetheless, and kudos to Sledgehammer Games for making bank.
