White House reporter issues swift Ohio State burn in press conference

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is introduced by White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders during the daily press briefing in the Brady Press Briefing Room at the White House in Washington Monday

After opening the briefing with a Q&A session, courtesy of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Sanders dove into her usual canned press statement by noting that it was the "last press briefing before the Thanksgiving holiday".

In a light-hearted moment during what can often be a contentious time, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders began her last press conference before the Thanksgiving holiday by asking reporters to follow her lead in stating something they were thankful for before asking their questions.

"Obviously, you probably know, and it's not secret, that I'm clearly very thankful for all of you here in the room, and I think that goes without saying", she said.

I'm thankful to have never sat through a White House press briefing where I was expected to say what I was thankful for.

Newsmax's John Gizzi said, "I'm thankful for the position I have and the colleagues who are my friends".

When Ryan tried for another question, Huckabee Sanders said: "April, I'm starting to regret calling on you first".

They had to say what they're thankful for before she would take their questions Monday.

Most reporters appeared happy to share what they were thankful for.

"Taxing them too much-attack them-and they might start drinking overseas, where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier", Sanders said. "So, anybody want to be first on what they're thankful for?"

"You're thankful for all of us", Ryan said.

Check out a clip of the White House press corps' responses above. But when Zeke Miller, of the Associated Press, opted not to participate, Sanders told him that he broke the "rule" for the day's presser.

When Sanders responded to Vega's quip saying, "I think we all are", American Urban Radio Networks correspondent and CNN contributor April Ryan interjected, reminding Sanders, "Yeah, we are part of it though" - with the emphasis on "we". Sanders replied, "you did break the rule of not offering anything that you're thankful for", to laughter from the room.

Ryan listed life, children, 20 years on the job and "to be able to talk to you and question you every single day".

Throughout the rest of the briefing, the reporters would offer up what they were thankful for before answering, just as Sanders had requested.
