29% of Americans approve of the GOP tax plan

A Democratic aide carries a chart past the U.S. Senate chamber that senators used to argue against the Republican tax bill on Capitol Hill in Washington Friday night Dec. 1 2017

Almost half of American women say they've been sexually assaulted, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday. While I cheekily suggested back in June that the GOP should do literally nothing rather than pursue any of its unpopular agenda, that was partly because I didn't believe at the time that they were capable of passing a bill. The Gallup and Quinnipiac results both pointed to an American mainstream that believes the Republican tax policy will deliver the bulk of its benefits to the wealthy and big corporations - which happens to be true.

A new Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday finds 70 percent of respondents think Congress should investigate the allegations.

The new surveys show that distaste with the Republican plan is worsening as its details emerge. The margin of error is 2.8 percentage points.

By contrast, just 27 percent of independent voters and six percent of Democrats said they favor the Republican tax legislation, the poll found.

Forty-one percent of voters said they expect their taxes to go up under the GOP plan, 32 percent said they think it would not have much impact and 20 percent said they think it would reduce their taxes.

Davis accused of misleading parliament over Brexit assessments
Davis continued: "Therefore the usefulness of such a detailed impact assessment is near zero". Labour MP Seema Malhotra called Davis's admission "a dereliction of duty".

The Quinnipiac poll found that 47 percent of women nationwide said they have been "sexually assaulted, meaning someone touched [them] in an inappropriate, sexual manner without [their] consent".

The House voted 222-192 Monday to approve a motion to go to conference with the Senate on the tax overhaul bill. In the poll, 58 percent say they would be less likely to support the plan if they knew it increased the debt.

Fifty-two percent of the voters surveyed say they are "embarrassed" to have Donald Trump as their president while 25 percent say they are "proud". "That's the harsh assessment of President Donald Trump, whose tax plan is considered built for the rich at the expense of the rest", said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the poll.

The survey of 1,508 voters was conducted from November 20-Dec. Live interviewers called landlines and cell phones.
