6 women sue Harvey Weinstein; NY Knicks owner named in racketeering claims

Lena Dunham tells The New York Times she warned Hillary Clinton's campaign about rumors she'd heard about Harvey Weinstein

They join the more than 80 other women, including Ashley Judd, Angelina Jolie and Rose McGowan, who have publicly accused Weinstein of sexual harassment and worse.

In a new New York Times exposé, the 31-year-old actress revealed that she spoke to several campaign directors about Harvey, who often donated money to and hosted fundraisers for Hillary.

"Each participant in the Weinstein Sexual Enterprise had a systematic linkage to each other participant through corporate ties, contractual relationships, financial ties, and the continuing coordination of their activities", the lawsuit says, claiming that the so-called enterprise violated the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.

Weinstein's lawyers have yet to comment on the suit.

Over a period of decades in showbusiness, Weinstein built a network of what the Times calls "enablers, silencers and spies", CBS News correspondent Jericka Duncan reports. "We knew it. Now the world knows it", the plaintiffs said in a joint statement released on Wednesday.

Kantor said Weinstein built a "complicity machine" to get what he wanted. "It is our fervent hope that these men will choose to go down in history as redemptive characters, not as men who helped cover up rape culture", the plantiffs said in a statement.

Lena Dunham was an avid advocate of Hillary Clinton during her presidential campaign but says she warned her team about fellow supporter Harvey Weinstein.

It's the most to come from Weinstein's camp in a while.

Weinstein has denied any instances of "non-consensual" sex and has denied that there were ever any "acts of retaliation".

According to the lawsuit, actresses and other women in the film industry were lured to industry events, hotel rooms, Weinstein's home, office meetings or auditions under the pretense that they were to discuss a project.

Weinstein, 65, was sacked from the film company he founded after The New York Times published accounts of several women.

Weinstein was ousted from the movie company he founded following a barrage of sexual harassment allegations that began with a bombshell New York Times article in early October.

Louisette Geiss, Katherine Kendall, Zoe Brock, Sarah Ann Masse, Melissa Sagemiller and Nannette Klatt are suing Weinstein, his company Miramax, his brother Bob Weinstein, and former Weinstein Company board members Dirk Ziff, Tim Sarnoff, Marc Lasry, Tarak Ben Ammar, Lance Maerov, Richard Koenigsberg, Jeff Sackman, James Dolan and Paul Tudor Jones.
