Allardyce to miss Europa tie over medical appointment

Everton look to end their disastrous Europa League campaign against Apollon Limassol

This week, the Toffees will travel away from home to take on Apollon Limassol in Cyprus.

The new Everton boss sends his side to Nicosia on Thursday in their final Europa League game of the season with first-team coaches Craig Shakespeare and Duncan Ferguson taking charge as he has not made the trip due to a pre-arranged medical appointment.

Sam Allardyce has given Everton debuts to two youngsters, Harry Charlsey and Fraser Hornby, with Everton's future in the competition already decided.

With little riding on the match- Everton, being bottom of Group E, can not progress- and Premier League performances privileged, assistant manager Craig Shakespeare will be joined by Duncan Ferguson in leading a shadow team in Cyprus.

Joel Robles comes in for Jordan Pickford in the only obvious change of the game.

Harry Charsley debuts at left-back with a central midfield of Davy Klaassen who made it to the final of the competition previous year and Morgan Schneiderlin. With the first-team stretched by injuries in defence, it could well be the case that teenager Collins joins second-string captain Morgan Feeney and Alex Denny in an inexperienced backline.

The visitors went ahead in the 21st minute as an unmarked Lookman dispatched a header into the roof of the net from Vlasic's cross after he had reached the byline via a one-two from Kevin Mirallas.

None of those will be involved in Sunday's Merseyside derby when Allardyce and Everton's big hitters return, but this was evidence that after a bleak few months, there is cause for optimism about the future at Goodison Park.

Though, not only will they face off on the pitch, they will face off for one of the most recognised strikers in world football.
