Audi stripped of first Formula E victory because of admin issue

Things appear to be looking up for Kiwi driver Mitch Evans in the Formula E championship after plenty of work in the

On Sunday night, Daniel Abt was stripped of the victory he had taken on track due to an alleged administrative mistake, handing the race victory to Daniel Rosenqvist and the Mahindra team.

Formula E continued its drama-filled start to the season in the second race of the Hong Kong double-header, with original victor Daniel Abt disqualified by the FIA due to a breach of Sporting and Technical regulations.

Kiwi flier Mitch Evans (Panasonic Jaguar Racing) put a poor Saturday behind him to grab second on the grid, followed by Formula E rookie Edoardo Montara (Venturi Formula E Team).

"We haven't really had an idea of what our M4 vehicle is like on a street circuit until now, but this weekend really showed that we have the pace to be very competitive".

The Mahindra driver had spun out of the lead from pole at the first corner but recovered to second place after Mortara then spun his Venturi auto with less than three laps left. He also managed to finish third in the Drivers Standings last season with three other podium appearances. "So this has been a really rollercoaster weekend", the 26-year-old said.

However following a post-race inspection, it was found that the FIA security stickers placed on the inverters and motors of Abt's auto did not correspond with those declared on the car's technical passport - the stickers are used to identify if a part has been tampered with. Daniel Abt inherited the win.

Felix Rosenqvist earned himself pole position for the second race in Hong Kong, but the Mahindra driver spun on the first lap and dropped himself down to 11th place.

If that's not all, Audi has been fined an additional 5000 Euros for a separate infringement. Previously, Lucas di Grassi was disqualified in the first ever season of Formula E and later in Mexico during the second season.
