Billy Bush outrage over Trump denial of 'grab them by the pussy'

Karen Pence and Vice President Mike Pence

Billy Bush, the former "Access Hollywood" host in the infamous 2005 recording of crass sexual talk with Donald Trump, has said that more than 20 women accusing the president of various forms of sexual misconduct can not all be lying. For almost 13 minutes, Bush spoke with Stephen Colbert about the entire ordeal.

Bush called out the billionaire businessman on Monday, however, and said that he was "infuriated" when he learned that Trump is questioning the facts.

"If you don't mind, I'm going to roll the tape", Colbert said at the beginning of their conversation. "For the last 14 months of my life, I have been dealing with it. You dealt with it for 14 minutes and went on to be the president".

Bush was canned as a host of NBC's flagship morning show "Today" after the "Access Hollywood" tape was leaked to the media in October. And I said, 'Okay, you're reopening wounds on them too. "Enough's enough ... stop playing around with people's lives".

Bush went on to tell Colbert that he feels like he "sacrificed" a little bit of his soul by participating in the conversation and took time to do some self-introspection following the tape's release.

Bush said that it took some time after his departure before he began reading the accounts of the women who had publicly leveled allegations against Trump.

Last night, Bush appeared on "Late Night With Stephen Colbert" to give his most detailed explanation yet about how the tape came about.

"Like I wrote in the op-ed, I think a lot of us were complicit ... everyone kind of had to kiss the ring of The Donald because he was making so much money for NBC ... so I was with him all the time", Bush told Colbert. "So when he said this.it infuriated me on the personal front and then I ended up Googling and I read an article with all of these women's accounts - when that article came out it was 13 days after I was sacked so I was in my own personal shock - fight or flight - and so I never really read it all the way", he added. Bush tried really hard to persuade Colbert not to re-air the "grab 'em" tape once more - yelping his protest even as Colbert cued it up - because he knew it would remind viewers one more time about the extent to which Bush played along with Trump's worst instincts. "If I had thought there was a man detailing a sexual assault strategy to me, I would have called the Federal Bureau of Investigation, not just reported it to my executive producer". He could have protected anybody and he did famously protect people from being fired from that show. The then-Celebrity Apprentice host said he is "automatically attracted to handsome women" and starts kissing them. Night after night, you can look below the surface of his Trump ridicule and see it plainly: He just wishes he didn't have to talk about Trump anymore, ever. I think it was very hot, emotionally in the country. "He told me that he went privately to the bosses".

"He's got the hand up; I'm going into my little cabin to do the work", said Bush.

When Colbert asked what Bush thought of the recent cultural shift and the notion that women need to be believed, Bush agreed, saying that "Women must be believed". "I'm anxious that the dialogue isn't gonna be around, because we have all these [things], we get onto the next thing". "I hope it reaches all the guys on the bus".

"Interestingly, this particular moment that we're in hasn't ended", Colbert said.
