Facebook to create 800 new jobs in London

The new jobs will take Facebook’s UK workforce to 2,300 by the end of next year

Facebook has unveiled its new office in Central London, 10 years after the social media company first came to the UK.

In a move signalling its commitment to Britain amid the Brexit uncertainty, tech giant Facebook has opened a new London office which will be its biggest engineering hub outside the US. London will be Facebook's largest engineering hub outside the USA, according the statement.

Facebook's new London HQ near Oxford Circus opened Monday.

The site will be the first Facebook office to feature an incubator space for start-ups.

Facebook's new home in Rathbone Place aims to become a hub for world class talent in engineering, technology and creativity, with a focus on a new way of thinking and continued contribution to the UK.

Designed by the architect Frank Gehry, it includes seven floors and a new public square called Rathbone Square.

Facebook's LDN_LAB will invite UK-based start-ups to take part per three month long programmes created to help kick start and accelerate their businesses.

The building has been created to house both engineers and developers along with Facebook's marking and sales teams.

The company stated that its experts from fields such as engineering, product, and partnerships will be on hand to guide participants during the program.

Nicola Mendelsohn, vice president for Facebook Europe, Middle East and Asia, said the announcement showed that Facebook "is more committed than ever to the UK" as the country gets ready to leave the EU.

"We have chosen the United Kingdom for this project because this country is, and always has been, a powerhouse of innovation", said Facebook in a website post.

She also said that this country has been a big part of Facebook's history over the past decade and she looks forward to achieving the same goal of bringing the world closer together.
