Flynn Said Russian Sanctions Would be 'Ripped Up,' Whistle-Blower Says

Image Michael Flynn appears to look at his phone during President Trump's inauguration ceremony

According to the whistleblower, Copson bragged to the whistleblower on Inauguration Day 2017 that Flynn had told Copson that the Russian Federation sanctions that had been an obstacle to the project pushed by the company will be "ripped up". It gave Flynn a potential monetary incentive to get sanctions imposed on Russian Federation during the Obama administration lifted immediately.

That's the explosive, but unverified, allegation of a whistleblower cooperating with House Democrats probing the myriad scandals surrounding Flynn, who pleaded guilty earlier this month to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his contacts with a senior Russian diplomat.

According to the account, the unnamed whistleblower ran into Copson at a party in Washington, D.C. on inauguration day.

On Inauguration Day, according to the letter, the whistleblower met with an individual who was working with Flynn to promote a project with Russia, Alex Copson, who told the whistleblower that Flynn would ensure the sanctions would be removed, paving the way for the project to continue.

The witness did not specify which sanctions Flynn was referring to in his texts.

The message said the project was 'good to go.' It continued that Copson should contact colleagues to 'let them know to put things in place.' The whistleblower could not read the text of the message, but said the timestamp said 12:11 pm, meaning just minutes after Donald Trump assumed the presidency.

Copson showed the witness the text on his phone.

'Our committee has credible allegations that President Trump's National Security Advisor sought to manipulate the course of global nuclear policy for the financial gain of his former business partners, ' wrote Cummings, Politico reported in a story on the letter.

Cummings responded to Gowdy's letter with a letter Thursday that called Gowdy's refusal to investigate the whistleblower's claims "astonishing".

Before joining the Trump campaign, "Flynn had worked on a business venture to partner with Russian Federation to build nuclear power plants in the Middle East until June 2016, but remained close with the people involved afterward", The New York Times.

Neither Copson nor an attorney for ACU responded to a request for comment.

Cummings said that he practiced law for a long time and has interviewed hundreds of witnesses, and he does believe the whistleblower is "very credible".

"Although this individual was extremely hesitant to come forward - and still fears retaliation - the whistleblower has made a decision to do so now because this individual feels duty bound as a citizen to make this disclosure", he wrote.

Perhaps most intriguingly of all, Cummingswrites that he told Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team about all this some time ago - and that they asked him to delay publicly revealing this information "until they completed certain investigation steps".

The project in question - promoted by a group of former senior United States military officers, and often described as a "Marshall Plan" of sorts - would involve U.S. companies working with Russian companies to build and operate nuclear plants in the Middle East, and export spent fuel from those plants.
