"This is an all-hands-on-deck week for us at Microsoft", said Jane Broom, senior director of education programs and policy at Microsoft Philanthropies. Amazon, Microsoft, and Facebook have donated more than $10 million each to Code.org since its inception.

As part of Computer Science Education Week, there are 469 planned "Hour of Code" events in schools across Arizona, including many in rural communities. Computer science can help nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity.

Those who made the pledge include Florida Governor Rick Scott, who made a $15 million investment to increase opportunities for middle and high school students and California Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom, who launched a Computer Science for California campaign to bring CS education to all students in California by 2025.

"We see so much excitement and so much transformation happening in this field", Broom told EdScoop.
