Milan Teen Goalie in Tears as Fans Criticize Him for Multimillion Wage

STADIO GIUSEPPE MEAZZA MILAN ITALY- 2017/12/13 Gianluigi Donnarumma and Gennaro Gattuso of AC Milan greet the supporters at the end of the TIM Cup football match between AC Milan and Hellas Verona. AC Milan won 3-0 over Hellas Verona

Gennaro Gattuso calls on supporters to stop targeting Gianluigi Donnarumma, amid suggestions that the young goalkeeper is seeking a move away from AC Milan.

A 100ft banner criticising Donnarumma was unfurled by fans before kick-off, causing the Italy worldwide to break down in the dressing room as Milan's players returned from their pre-match warm up.

Fans unfurled a banner during the Coppa Italia win over Verona on Wednesday saying they had "lost patience".

After a protracted saga appeared to be settled in the offseason by Donnarumma signing a contract until 2021, speculation over his future has started again and supporters have had enough. "It's time to leave. our patience with you is over!"

Television images after the game then showed Donnarumma visibly upset in the Milan changing room and being consoled by club captain Leonardo Bonucci.

The teenager broke into the first team as a 16-year-old, has played more than 80 times in Serie A and won four caps for Italy. For his age, he's the best goalkeeper in the world right now. I can only say that while he is with me he will always have my total protection.

At the end of the match, Massimiliano Mirabelli - the sporting director at Milan - faced the media in an attempt to calm the situation, and call out the provocateur. "I don't have anything to say to him", Mirabelli said. If any player wants to leave they must tell us, even if obviously they must be satisfied with our requests.

"We understand the moment and the fans, but we whistle the opponents and not our players". Perhaps there is a gentleman who wants to organise something, but we will look out for Milan's interests in every arena. It's not all Gigio's fault and we must support him, because he is part of the club's heritage. "We know where the evil comes from, we hope to solve this issue over the next few months". Gigio has not told me personally that he wants to leave.
