Mother and 2-Year-Old Kicked Off Spirit Airlines Flight

Mei Rui 34 was on her way from Texas to New York with her son and parents to take part in a work assignment. She is a cancer researcher

An Airbus A320 jetliner, belonging to Spirit Airlines, lands in Las Vegas on March 1.

It's the holidays, which means that everyone is traveling.

Mei Rui, a concert pianist and cancer researcher, was supposed to fly from Houston to Newark on Friday along with her son and her elderly parents.

Mei Rui said she was flying to NY on Friday to participate in a cancer research study. The plans were made months ago.

Mei Rui, 34, was on her way from Texas to NY with her son and parents to take part in a work assignment.

It was the second time passengers had had to get off the already delayed plane.

'Because you were not compliant, ' was the answer she was given.

Her father, the toddler's grandfather, watched on from across the aisle as a flight attendant told them: 'I just need to check'. Lately, it seems, that flight attendants have been acting more and more like the police.

In a tweet, a man claiming to be Rui's husband said that Spirit was not taxing when his wife was removed.

Rui asked if she could feed him a few minutes more to finish knowing if she woke him he would be very noisy.

'I just want to know why we are getting kicked off the plane!' Rui, who is from Shanghai but has lived in the U.S. since attending college, said.

The incident occurred after a three-and-a-half-hour delay to her flight from Texas to Manhattan due to ice on the plane. Rui stopped feeding her son, and as she predicted, the baby began crying.

In videos she shared, Lukas can be seen wailing in his seat as his Chinese grandmother tried to console him and his mother pleaded: 'He is in his seat? She said it was then that the crew told her she needed to exit the plane, a moment she recorded on her phone.

Once they had been thrown off the plane the mother her parents and her son stood by the gate asking to be told which rule they had broken but were never given a straight answer beyond'you were not compliant. Eventually police were called. She is pict

"Every parent with a young child can image, you don't want to be that parent on the plane", Rui explained.

"Because you were not compliant".

Cellphone footage shows her son in his seat crying when another flight attendant instructs them to leave the plane. "I think we deserve to know that".

But the airline representative declined to give more details.

"If this happened to your family".

But the airline representative cut her off.

"They treated us like we were criminals", Rui said further in her interview with The Post.

In the terminal, things got even worse. The family waited for an hour for their luggage, but the items were never returned.

In a statement, Stephen Schuler director of communications at Spirit said, "The passenger failed to comply with crew instructions by not being safely buckled and secured for takeoff after being asked repeatedly to do so".

Schuler noted that FAA regulations and airline policies require all passengers stay seated and buckled during takeoff and landing. We apologise for any inconvenience to our guests. "As a courtesy, we've issued a full refund to the customer in question".

Rui never reached NY. Rui had already been through a loss this year: She had lost her house and all of her possessions in Hurricane Harvey, and she just wanted the flight to go smoothly.

Mei Rui, a Yale graduate, holds degrees in molecular biophysics and biochemistry and music. She was nominated for Grammy in 2015.
