Patriots to sign Kenny Britt

Patriots to sign Kenny Britt

The New England Patriots have come to verbal agreement to sign wide receiver Kenny Britt, who was released by the Cleveland Browns last week.

There's no denying that Britt was bought high, off a season in which he hauled in 68 passes for 1,002 yards and five touchdowns over 15 games with the Los Angeles Rams. He also now becomes the Patriots biggest receiver at 6-foot-3. Without Rob Gronkowski, who was serving his 1-game suspension, the Patriots offense suddenly became ineffective and easy to defend.

Patriots safety Duron Harmon, another Rutgers alum, didn't play with Britt at Rutgers but said he knows him from going back to the college over offseasons.

Minnesota Governor Picks Tina Smith to Fill Al Franken's Senate Seat
Collin Peterson, D-Minn., said the lieutenant governor from Minneapolis will be good to his western Minnesota district. Mark Dayton appointed Smith and announced it during a press conference, saying she is the best person for the job.

Britt joins a group of receivers in Brandin Cooks, Chris Hogan, Danny Amendola, Phillip Dorsett and Matthew Slater.

He has only been active for nine games and started four in spite of the fact that Corey Coleman missed half of the season. It should be noted, however, that the Patriots are a team that is willing to take chances on players, and they don't always work out. In 2012, he was arrested, again in New Jersey, and charged with resisting arrest. It's unfortunate that the team's main offseason signing lasted less than one season of a four-year deal, but it was smart to cut ties in what is essentially a lost season.

Britt had some issues this season in Cleveland. Well, Bill Belichick and Tom Brady can rehabilitate just about anybody. They also released linebacker Jonathan Freeny and wide receiver/punt returner Bernard Reedy.
