Steelers Honoring Ryan Shazier by Wearing Custom Cleats Sunday

Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier is carted off with a spinal injury

Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier is showing gradual improvement from his back injury, ESPN reported on Sunday.

Schefter also reported sources told him doctors are controlling and limiting Shazier's movement as they wait for the swelling and bruising to subside.

Shazier's football career is in doubt, and Schefter noted "the focus right now is not on his playing career but on trying to facilitate his recovery".

The Steelers last updated Shazier's condition on Thursday when they announced his spinal surgery.

Members of the Steelers will be wearing custom cleats to honor their injured teammate on Sunday. His partner at inside linebacker, Vince Williams, has been wearing his jersey all week at practice to give the defense some semblance of familiarity now that he is calling the defensive signals and a number of players will be wearing Shazier-inspired cleats against the Ravens on Sunday night. National Football League rules, though, only allow them during warmups.

Wide receiver Antonio Brown is making sure Shazier still has a presence on the field tomorrow night. The cleats are adorned with Shazier's likeness and the hashtag "Shalieve" so even though he physically won't be present for the game, he'll have his presence felt. He went down to the ground and immediately reached for his back after the hit.

The 6-foot-1, 230-pound Shazier leads the team in tackles (89), interceptions (three) and pass deflections (11) this season.
