'TIME' Names the #MeToo 'Silence Breakers' as Person of the Year 2017

The women behind the #MeToo movement have been named Time Person of the Year

The magazine cover bears the phrase, "The Silence Breakers" and describes the women featured as "the voices that launched a movement".

President Donald Trump was named "runner up", a telling blow to the President after he claimed on Twitter a few weeks ago that he had "passed" on being named "Person of the Year" again.

"The Silence Breakers" - those who have shared their stories about sexual assault and harassment - have been named Time magazine's Person of the Year.

"This reckoning appears to have sprung up overnight", the Time feature states.

Trump claimed last month that the magazine told him he was the likely victor for the second consecutive year, which Time later disputed.

Weinstein has denied via his lawyers and spokespeople that he engaged in any non-consensual behavior. "Literally, I exited that hotel room at the Peninsula Hotel in 1997 and came straight downstairs to the lobby, where my dad was waiting for me, because he happened to be in Los Angeles from Kentucky, visiting me on the set".

Over the course of the conversation around sexual harassment and assault, accusations of sexual harassment and assault also emerged against many other well-known names such as actor Kevin Spacey and comedian Louis CK. This image represents the unnamed women and men who have come forward anonymously with their stories of sexual abuse.

National Football League suspends JuJu Smith-Schuster, George Iloka one game each for hits
The NFL explained he was suspended for hitting a defenseless receiver in the head. Both players will be eligible to return to their teams' lineups on December 11.

The wave of allegations has also hit the US Congress, where the longest serving member of the House, Democrat John Conyers, announced his retirement Tuesday and pressure is mounting on Democratic Senator Al Franken to resign.

Numerous women have spoken out publicly since October about sexual misconduct by dozens of high-profile men in entertainment, media, business and sports.

"The galvanizing actions of the women on our cover. along with those of hundreds of others, and of many men as well, have unleashed one of the highest-velocity shifts in our culture since the 1960s", the magazine's editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal said in a statement.

The cover depicts a sharp gray backdrop, and activist Adama Iwu, actress Ashley Judd, singer Taylor Swift, strawberry picker Isabel Pascual and former Uber engineer Susan Fowler are photographed against it in black, looking determined to stand their ground after coming out with gruesome tales of how they were sexually harassed by senior people in their industry when they were first starting out.

"The idea that influential, inspirational individuals shape the world could not be more apt this year", Felsenthal told "Today". In 2015, the magazine named Angela Merkel for her decisive response to Europe's refugee crisis, one of many emergencies she has managed over the last decade.
