A 65-inch rollable OLED TV is officially unveiled by LG Display

Google Home Mini

The South Korean tech giant showcased the panel - which rolls up like a newspaper - at January's annual CES 2018 show in Las Vegas.

LG's 65-inch display is far larger, and makes the prospect of owning an actual rollable television in the near future much more likely. That was much more of a tech demo than what this looks to be, just showing off the idea of a display that can be rolled up instead of how it might actually be used in practice.

The 66-inch prototype boasts UHD 3840x2160 resolution and will allow consumers to roll it up when not viewing them, allowing for easy removable and easy installation, LG Display said.

LG display first announced the development of an 18-inch "rollable" display back in 2015 but this is the first time the company will show it off in public. Again, this isn't a tiny little roll-up OLED prototype like an earlier one that LG had released a few years ago purely for demonstration purposes. But we'll likely hear more when CES kicks off this week.

It seems unlikely that LG will be selling this sort of display to the general public any time soon, and it would nearly certainly cost a hefty sum. Its small size allows for better space utilization, meaning you can take the TV anytime, anywhere and “enjoy bright, high-resolution content”. LG first showed off the wallpaper model previous year. "With the innovation of rollable displays, LG Display will continue to lead the industry by creating new opportunities and markets". LG has also upgraded in the audio category from the current standard 2.1 channel sound to 3.1 channel sound.
